First reflection on Said

This writing from the start is definitely different than the other pieces of text that we have read before. The ones that we have read have been more argumentative than analysis. However, when reading Said’s paper it felt like he was analyzing multiple key sources and topics on the view of the orient. Here I feel there was no real argument or claim to how people should view this. It was not his way or the highway. He would take pieces of evidence from important people who were either studying the topic or apart of the topic in some way. He started to analyze how they viewed the orient, and how it applies to how we as people view it. This writing was a lot different than how the other pieces of text have been. I was actually a little drawn back by it. After reading Ernst I expected it to be like that just a lot more of argumentative with claims with hidden meanings in the text. This was more of a formal essay. I felt like I was reading a college student’s final essay thesis paper they wrote. It was super formal, well laid out. I felt like it was not biased and just stated the important facts that we needed to know.
