A couple of my friends and I went to the Great Allentown Fair on Thursday night. I truly believe someone’s experience with something new like this depends on weather they have had a similar experience or they have had something better than what they just experienced. Growing up my town they had an event called the Hillsborough Rotary Fair. It was a big thing for our town and usually happens in the middle of August. I would go to this fair every year and my experience at the Allentown Great Fair was me comparing it to my fair. First right when you walk in you have to go through the gate to pay to enter. My hometown fair if you never payed you can still go in and around you just could not go on rides. The second thing I noticed was that the Allentown Fair had roads closed for this event and the surface it was on was pavement. It felt weird to me because of the Hillsborough Fair always being on like little rocks or gravel. Walking down the first row of the Allentown Fair there was a lot of similarity with the pop up tents. It was all the food sections and I was getting feeling of being back at home with how similar the foods tents are from the Hillsborough Fair. Made me miss home a little more than I already do at the moment. A big reason I loved my fair back home was because there was this food tent that made the best funnel cake I have had in my entire life. Knowing me I had to do a taste test and compare the funnel cakes of both fairs. The first thing I noticed about the funnel cake at the Allentown Fair was that it was a dollar cheaper. Which I soon realized it was after eating it. The Hillsborough Fair continues to have the best funnel cake. At this fair there was one thing that really stood out to me at this fair. It was the people. At our Hillsborough Rotary Fair no matter what day it is you will find kids there. Ranging from 5 up to High School. Our fair was very popular for that age group and I would say that 80% of the people at our fair would be that age group. The fair would be a place for us to hangout and get a big group of guys together. However, at the Allentown Fair that audience was a lot different. The people that attended were I wouldn’t say much older, but older than High School kids. and I did not see many groups of High School kids hanging out and having a good time. I saw people who have graduated college. A little bit of parents with their kids. Also, there were a lot of grown adults trying to enjoy their time. My time at the fair was a pretty good one. It was good to go to a different fair once in awhile and it was definitely good to get off campus for the first time in awhile. However, my opinion might be biased, but my Hillsborough Rotary Fair is a little better than the Great Allentown Fair. Do not get me wrong it was a nice fair, but nothing will be like home.
