After dinner on the night of Diwali, Jenny and I went to the celebration they were having in the event space I believe it is called. We walked around and we really had no idea what was going on. We were new to this and we have heard of the holiday, but never really knew what it was about. When we walked in I immediately saw Charlie and Alex, some of my friends from the golf team, then we saw Sultan who was painting this little bowl type thing. We asked him what he was doing. He told me he didn’t really know but it was fun to paint a little souvenir. Jenny and I proceeded to grab two of these little bowl type things and we started to paint. Although hers was good I think mine would have won the art contest. No bias at all there. Then the lights went off and the spotlight came on. First, they had a video of a lady on the screen of her singing and all the fancy clothes that I believe correspond with the culture. Then there was a group that I already forgot the name of. They were really good, they seemed very passionate about what they were doing, especially the main dancer who was also yelling. Then there was a kid who read a poem. It was very hard to get the theme because in another language that I did not understand so I didn’t get the exact words, but when the kid gave the summary that is what I took away from it. Lastly, we saw a tap dance group. I was kind of confused by this. I was wondering if tap dance was a tradition for this holiday, and on top of that what they were tap dancing too was a hip hop song from the 2010s which was really confusing me because it definitely had nothing to do with the holiday. Well that was my time at the Diwali celebration, it definitely would have helped if someone who knew about the holiday was with me.
