My roommate is very interested in sports psychology and in psychology in general. He told me about this event that teaches us about sports psychology and the fundamentals of teaching success. I thought this would be a great idea because being a golfer myself, the game is a very mentally challenging game. It would benefit me to go and learn more about this topic.
When I entered I found out the speaker was our very own Tim Silvestry. Right off the bat he was straight into it. I think he just likes to talk and when he was talking about it, to me it felt like he was reading off a script. I feel as if a lot of what he says is like a script that he keeps reading. Then he had us try and make a long time goal. We all had to present these goals. These goals were not allowed to be anything lower than something that is not greatly achievable. Mine was that I wanted to own 3 homes in an airbnb business. I thought it was a great goal. Tim really pushed that goal past the limits. He told me all these things that I could do, how to start it, how to make it better, and that the way I see it changes the whole outlook of the goal.
It was my first time there and I feel that I really had to take the heat. He chose my goal over everyone else’s to choose on what to do, and to talk about. However, this did not feel like a sport psychology speaking. When I went to a sports psychologist they helped me with the game of golf, what to think about when walking, what to look at, and breathing techniques. However, Tim at the beginning said he hates golf and that it is very frustrating. This did not give me the best impression on what was about to happen.
It was a good learning experience to achieve success however I did not understand why they put sports psychology at the title because it did not help me with anything in sports. It should have been titled the mindset to achieve success. I was waiting to get out of there because what I thought was going to be the topic was something totally different then what was happening.
